An elderly man’s dentures have been found lodged inside his stomach after he swallowed them during a tasty meal.
The peculiar incident unfolded when the 65-year-old man from the city of Xi’an, in China’s north-western Shaanxi Province, was enjoying a hot plate of sweet potatoes for dinner on 25th February.
But when he suddenly experienced difficulty swallowing and found no relief from drinking several glasses of water, he promptly rushed to the hospital for a check-up.
Medics at the hospital were stunned when abdominal X-ray scans showed the ingested dentures lodged in the elderly patient’s stomach.
When questioned the man said he believed his dentures were lost, and never anticipated that they slipped from his grasp and were swallowed along with the bite of sweet potatoes.

Doctors later swiftly retrieved the dentures from the man’s stomach.
Wang Jun, Chief Physician at the Xi’an Daxing Hospital, said: “The patient’s dentures were seven centimetres [2.7 inches] long and four centimetres [1.5 inches] wide.

“The operation was relatively difficult but the dentures were successfully removed through endoscopic surgery without damaging the stomach lining.
“The patient is currently in stable condition.”
Shocked after images of the dentures emerged online, users on China’s version of TikTok, Douyin, could not hold back from commenting.
Douyin user ‘Yuan’ said: “Are these really seven centimetres long?”
Then ‘Grandma Bao’ commented: “This truly happens, people with dentures really need to pay attention.”
And ‘Blackboard newspaper for Class 2 of the fourth year’ added: “Bad teeth and good appetite.”
