Wife Amazed As Wedding Ring She Lost 25 Years Ago Is Returned

A woman who lost her wedding ring during a game of beach volleyball 25 years ago has told of her astonishment after it was found and returned to her.

Just wed Regiane Amboni, now aged 44, had taken the gold ring off and given it to her sister-in-law for safe-keeping during the game in 1998 Laguna, in the state of Santa Catarina, Brazil.

She explained: “I took off my ring because it hurt my finger, I wasn’t used to it.

“I took off my ring, gave it to my sister-in-law to hold, she lost it.

“We looked for it anyway, we sifted through the sand, there was no sign of it.”

Regaine, now a psychologist, husband Renato, now 46, and the whole family looked for hours but could not find it.

She even went back with a metal detector and only gave up after years of fruitless searching, she explained.

Regiane said: “Every time we came, we kept throwing sand back and forth, but to no avail.”

Husband Renato later lost his wedding ring too and thinking it must be fate the couple never replaced them.

But now amazed Regaine had been reunited with her ring on 5th January.

A family friend’s son saw something glinting in the sand at the same spot where it was lost.

When he dug it out he saw it was engraved with the dates Regaine and Renato were engaged and married and realised who it must belong to.

Regaine explained: “The boy was playing and said he found a ring. He ended up showing it and it had my husband’s name, the engagement date and the wedding date.

“He simply gave me back almost 25 later. It’s intact. It’s here, in my hand, on my finger.”

It was so beautiful to know that, after so long, no one took it home.”

And now the couple are planning to replace Renato’s ring with a replica.
