This startling CCTV footage shows the fatal moment a light aircraft crashes down in the middle of a busy Ukrainian street.
The tragic accident took place in the resort city of Odessa in the southern Ukrainian region of the same name on 17th June but the video has only just been reported in local media.
In the footage, several cars can be seen passing along the road when a Y1 Delfin light aircraft suddenly crashes down onto the tarmac.
The front of the plane hits the road as the rest of the aircraft is sent skidding along the tarmac.
Witnesses report that the plane’s landing gear had been opened but the propeller was not spinning.
The plane was reportedly being piloted by professional pilots Oleg Sinitsa and Yuri Zhukovsky who both died at the scene, as confirmed by paramedics.
The plane belonged to the ‘Odessa Aircraft Plant’ and the police press service report the plane was performing certification tests at the time of the accident.
A flight plan was recovered from the scene and investigators are working to determine the cause of the crash.
Preliminary investigations reportedly point towards a technical failure in the plane but officials have said this needs to be confirmed by the final results of the investigation.
A commission of experts will be created to determine the technical condition of the aircraft.
