Mum And Dad Jailed For 14 Years After Stealing Chicken To Feed Starving Son

A mum and dad have been jailed for nearly 14 years after they stole a roast chicken to feed their starving son.

Sandra del Pilar, 52, and her husband had taken the food after their son fainted at school from hunger while they were struggling to make ends meet.

Now – report local media in Bogata, Colombia – the couple have been jailed for 13 years eight months after judges found them guilty of theft.

It is unclear whether the couple even had a trial.

Sandra – a teacher and civil rights worker – told local media: “They called me from the child’s school and they told me that the child had fainted.

” I already knew why the child had fainted, the child had fainted from hunger.”

Sandra and her husband were later reportedly caught stealing a store-cooked roast chicken by a security guard and were arrested by the police.

They were released a few hours later but the investigation continued.

But months later justice officials told them they had been found guilty and were being sent to prison.

One of the factors that was reportedly taken into consideration by the authorities was that they had allegedly used children to commit the theft.

Sandra – currently jailed at the El Buen Pastor women’s prison in Bogota – is trying to get the verdict overturned.

Her husband, jailed at the La Picota prison, also in the Colombian capital, is said to be in poor health.

Sandra said: “If my husband gets out of prison alive, it will be a miracle. If we both manage to get through this together, it will be a miracle.”

She said that she only sees him once a month and for 50 minutes at a time.

Sandra says she is driven by the desire to see her 17-year-old son again.

She said through tears: “I am still not going to let a single day go by that I do not fight for my freedom, because it is not fair that I am here.”
