Mexican Doctor, 32, Suffers Brain Swelling After Pfizer COVID-19 Vaccine

This pretty 32-year-old doctor has suffered sudden inflammation of the brain leading to convulsions and breathing difficulties half an hour after receiving the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine.

Doctor Karla Cecilia Perez Osorio, 32, was diagnosed with encephalomyelitis shortly after receiving the vaccine at a hospital in the municipality of Monclova located in the Mexican state of Coahuila.

Encephalomyelitis is a swelling of the brain and spinal cord normally caused by a viral infection.

The doctor was transported to a hospital in the city of Monterey in the state of Nuevo Leon to receive treatment where she remains in a stable condition.

Her family claimed that she suffered convulsions, breathing difficulties, and partial paralysis on some of her limbs within 30 minutes of receiving the vaccine.

According to local media, the 32-year-old doctor also has a history of allergies but did not specify what they are.

The national government issued a statement on the incident on 1st January confirming that an investigation has been opened to look into what could have caused the patient’s reaction which had never occurred in the clinical tests of the Pfizer-BioNTech BNT162b2 vaccine.

The case is being investigated by the Directorate General of Epidemiology and the National Centre for Health of Infants and Adolescents along with the Mexican Social Security Institute.

The statement added that the doctor did not show any ill-effects after receiving a dose of steroids and anticonvulsants in hospital.

According to the newspaper Excelsior, Perez Osorio’s father-in-law Carlos Palestino said the main objective is for her to get better but assured that they support vaccination as it has shown to be the best way to prevent illnesses and has saved many lives. (https://bit.ly/2JKQ26G)

There have been no further reports on the investigation.

Perez Osorio works a doctor of internal medicine in a public hospital in the municipality of Monclova.
