A British health tourist is claiming she was abused by a male nurse while under anaesthesia in Turkey.
The woman identified only as Karolin P. had travelled from her home in England to Istanbul to undergo plastic surgery, Turkish media reported.
She went under the knife for the unspecified operation in an upmarket private hospital in the city’s Sisli district on 6th October, 2021.
Following her op, she was taken to the recovery room still under the effects of the anaesthetic.
It was there, claims Karolin, that nurse Fatih B. came in and sexually assaulted her.
When the half-conscious young woman opened her eyes slightly, the male nurse quickly left the room, she claims.
But he allegedly reentered the room a short time later, locked the door, and continued assaulting her.
Karolin later that day told a friend about the abuse and her friend insisted she report it to the hospital management.
She followed her friend’s advice, but it emerged that Fatih B. had already resigned from his job hours earlier.
The hospital management looked at security camera footage from the recovery room but could not find any evidence of the abuse.
They also interviewed another nurse, F. G., who said she did not witness anything inappropriate.
But they found it suspicious that Fatih B. had resigned from his job and so decided to file a criminal complaint with the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office.
An alleged text message sent from the nurse to the patient is also being looked into.
The case remains under investigation.
