A pet owner was stunned when she took her dog to the vet worried it might have swallowed a rubber duck but learned it had ingested 11 of them instead.
The owner – named Ms Liu in local media in Shanghai, in central China – said she often received complimentary toy ducks when buying drinks.
Recently, she noticed a red toy duck was missing, leading her to suspect that her pet French Bulldog might have swallowed it by mistake.
She took it to a vet clinic for an examination, where an X-ray revealed five rubber ducks in its stomach.
But as doctors rushed the pup for urgent surgery, they removed an astonishing 11 ducks from its abdomen.
Both medics and Mrs Liu were shocked by the discovery and said the dog was very lucky to be alive and well.
The day after the surgery, the dog was already making a full recovery and appeared remarkably joyful.
She shared a video of their trip back home on Douyin – China’s version of TikTok – showing her apparently gently scolding the bulldog.
But it seems it could not care less as it was ignoring her worried rambling and was already dozing off by her legs next to the car seat.
Ms Liu added she will be extra careful in the future as she suspects her pet’s memory of the emergency operation will quickly fade.
