Pretty Holidaymaker Aged 27 Dies In France After Being Hit By Falling Shutter

A 27-year-old Italian holidaymaker has been killed in France after she was hit by a falling shutter while going to a restaurant with a friend.

Carlotta Grippaldi, 27, from Turin, died after she was hit by a shutter that fell on her in the Grande Rue street in the old town part of Briancon, in the Hautes-Alpes department in the Provence-Alpes-Cote d’Azur region, in south-eastern France, on Saturday, 13th August.

Carlotta, who was on holiday, had been leaving a restaurant with a group of friends in the historic town centre, according to Italian media. But she was reportedly hit by a shutter that fell from the second floor of a building.

She was given medical attention at the scene but she died in an ambulance while being taken to the Briancon hospital, according to French media.

Carlotta reportedly had a degree in economics and business from the University of Turin, as well as a master’s degree in marketing and digital management and was passionate about the mountains.

In 2019, she reportedly studied to become a skiing instructor, according to Italian media, who have reported that she worked in the touring area as a skiing instructor.

The shutter reportedly detached from the window and fell just as she was passing by below.

The local prosecutor’s office has opened an investigation for involuntary manslaughter and endangering the life of others, according to French media.

The police investigation into the young woman’s death is ongoing.
