Mutant Hen With 4 Legs Hatches In China

This is the moment a mutant hen with two additional legs protruding from its anal area balances outside its cage apparently unable to move.

The four-legged chicken was filmed by its owner in the city of Bayannur in the northern Chinese region of Inner Mongolia.

According the news source The Paper, the chicken was from its appearance otherwise normal except for the two additional legs, however, it has problems balancing and moving around.

The unnamed owner said the hen appeared no different to the other chickens at first, but grew the two extra legs after about a month.

The chicken has since become somewhat of a local celebrity. The owner said that he has never seen anything like it before and residents are flocking by to look at it.

Dean Wang of the Inner Mongolia Academy of Agricultural And Animal Husbandry Sciences said: “This kind of deformity is generally caused by the chick’s embryonic development, and there are many reasons for it.

“The mutation may have been caused by external factors or genes, but incidents like this are very rare.”
