A cousin of King Charles has been sentenced to eight months behind bars after she was found guilty of drink driving.
Princess Kalina of Bulgaria, 52, the daughter of the last King of Bulgaria, Simeon Borisov Saxe-Coburg-Gotha, 86, had been caught drunk in charge of a borrowed car.
Judges at Samokov District Court suspended the sentence and reduced it by one third because the princess had cooperated with police.
She was also fined BGN 200 (GBP 87.38) and ordered to pay a further BGN 17,953.34 (GBP 7,864) based, under local law, on the value of the car she had been driving.
The princess was also banned from driving for eight months.
The princess left the courtroom with her husband Kitin Munoz ahead of the verdict due to health reasons, according to local media.
The maximum sentence she could have faced was three years in prison and a fine of up to BGN 1,000 (GBP 437).
Local media reported that the decision can be appealed in higher court.
The Bulgarian Royal family comes from the same House of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha dynasty that became part of the British royals when Prince Albert married Queen Victoria.
The link makes her a distant cousin of British royals.
The clan generated kings and queens across most of Europe including Belgium, Portugal, Bulgaria and the UK.
But the British royal family dropped the name during World War I because it sounded too German.
Princess Kalina, who once shaved her head for a bet, is known for her unconventional style and often appears at society events with outrageously dyed hair and colourful clothes.
