50 Years For YouTuber Who Kidnapped Lawyer

This young YouTube influencer who offered advice on how to be a successful entrepreneur has been sentenced to 50 years in prison for leading a gang who kidnapped a female lawyer and asked for thousands in Bitcoin as a ransom.

Influencer German Abraham Loera Acosta, 25, was the CEO of a successful company and used YouTube and Twitter to offer advice to his followers on creating their own entrepreneurial projects. He has now been sentenced to 50 years in prison for an entirely different type of entrepreneurial project, organising a gang of kidnappers.

The court in the city of Chihuahua in the state with the same name in northern Mexico heard they kidnapped their victim, a lawyer, on 28th February 2018.

The target, who has not been named, was kidnapped by the gang in the city centre of Chihuahua, being forced into a white car and taken her to a house in the south of the city.

The gang then demanded 2 million MXN (80,342 GBP) in Bitcoins from her family as a ransom to release the woman.

An investigation was launched and the victim was rescued three days later in a police operation.

The five accomplices, named as Jassiel, Jesus Adrian, Edgar Rene, Jesus Arnulfo and Juan Alfonso, whose ages have not been reported, received the same prison sentence as Acosta, local media report.

The six men will reportedly have to pay the victim 500,000 MXN (20,085 GBP) in total in compensation.

The case has shocked netizens and local media as Loera Acosta was an active social media influencer who shared videos on Youtube and Twitter about his job as a CEO in the Mexican company Innlab.

He offered his followers advice and tips on how to pursue a successful career as an entrepreneur.

Facebook user ‘Alberto Isaias Garcia Martinez’ wrote on Facebook: “If it is true what he did I hope he rots in prison.”

Netizen ‘Danny Saucedo’ said: “He created his own team, a kidnapping team. What a way to waste a life.”
