Wildlife fans going ape when a mother gorilla cradles her three-week-old baby.
The tender footage, filmed at Schmiding Zoo, Krenglbach, Austria, on 29th July, shows mum Kibibi leaning back to take a well-earned break as she cuddles her newborn.
Baby Jabari, Swahili for ‘brave’, is then introduced to his silverback dad Awambe when mum Kibibi tugs at his arm for attention.
Then the family walks off peacefully together as they forage for food.
It was the first time baby Jabara had been seen out in public since his birth.
Gorilla keeper Can Hasibe said in a statement obtained by Newsflash: “Jabari is Swahili, an African name, and means brave.
“We chose this name because the little gorilla overcame the difficulties of the first days of his life so bravely.
“It is wonderful to see the offspring go on their first exploratory tour outside.”
Zoo Director Dr Andreas Artmann added: “The excitement within the gorilla family has now noticeably subsided.
“Kibibi is enjoying being part of the group again and seeks the company of Awembe.
“Together, the gorilla family goes in search of food or often lounges comfortably together as a group.”
Dr Artmann explained: “It is very important for us that the young one grows up within his family as a gorilla and not with human caregivers.
“Although this initially carries a greater risk, it ultimately provides a significant advantage for appropriate behaviour later in life.”
