A pet corgi had to undergo immediate surgery to save his life after he ate more than one and a half lbs of gravel that had been accidentally smeared with barbecue sauce.
The hungry pup, named Hammer, was reportedly accompanying its owners, whose identities were not revealed, to a small get-together for lunch at their summer house in Moscow, Russia’s capital.
While preparing the meat, they accidentally spilled some of the delicious marinade on the nearby garden path that was covered in fine gravel.
But the smell apparently piqued Hammer’s interest and he hungrily swallowed down countless tiny stones.
The corgi apparently had his fill of nearly 1.6 lbs of gravel before his owners noticed him and immediately rushed him to the nearest vet.
An X-ray revealed his stomach and part of his intestines were full of rocks, and Hammer required urgent surgery.
Medics performed a delicate operation to extract each stone one by one and in the end removed enough to fill up an entire bowl.
After the surgical procedure, Hammer was put on a course of intravenous therapy.
He has since fully recovered and is feeling well, local media reported.
