This is the moment a policeman films a fox dropping the chicken in its mouth to avoid being run over by an SUV.
The incident was filmed in the city of Baia Mare in the north-western Romanian county of Maramures while the fox was trying to cross the road with a stolen chicken in its jaws on 20th April .
A police spokesperson said: “It was a flagrant crime of aggravated theft and trespassing that was witnessed by officers on a traffic stop who turned a blind eye this time.”
According to local media, the policeman happened to be in the area at the time and filmed the incident with his mobile phone.
In the footage, the fox is seen crossing in front of a petrol station forecourt with its prey in its mouth.
Just as it is about to cross the road, a SUV appears and the spooked fox has to drop the chicken to run to safety on the other side of the street.
The filming cop laughs as the SUV slows down to avoid running over the dropped chicken.
According to the unnamed police officer, the fox was later able to safely cross the road to retrieve its prey before running off with it.
The fox was not the only one that had a lucky escape, as the police and revealed that he was there with a colleague and they were planning to stop the SUV for a routine check, but let the driver go without doing so after the wildlife incident.
