Cat In City With A Million Stray Felines Clears A Safe Space In Packed Metro

Grumpy cat decides to rest on top of an underground ticket barrier and refuses to let passengers cross through without getting scratched.

The footage was apparently shot on the Istanbul Metro, which services Turkey’s largest city and its cultural and historic hub.

But the city is also famous for the large number of wild cats living on the streets, which are estimated to be over a million.

It appears that there were so many people walking around that the cat decided to find a safe place to avoid being trodden on.

But once there, it clearly wanted to preserve its personal space and make it especially clear when anybody got too close to use the barrier by trying to scratch them.

The underground network is run by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IBB ), which declined to comment on the incident.

The video was shared by netizen ‘Kedi Oezelhareket’, who suggested that the IBB “needed to give the cat something to calm it down”.

It is reported that the reason Istanbul has so many cats is the abundance of rats and mice. This is reportedly because many of the houses are made of wood, which provides plenty of shelter for them.

It is also reportedly due to the fact that cats are a revered animal in Islam, which is the predominant religion in the country.

The Islamic prophet Muhammad is said to have been saved from a snake by a cat and he also prohibited the persecution and killing of cats.
