These shocking images show a mutant calf with no eyes and its huge brain protruding under the skin due to a deformed skull.
The mutant calf – resembling an abstract animal from a Picasso painting – was born in a village in the central-eastern Turkish province of Elazig.
The farmer, name not reported, was shocked to see the newborn calf and immediately contacted local vet Hikmet Bicer for advice.
The veterinarian said the calf had been born with a badly deformed skull and no eyes.
He also said that the animal’s jawbone has not formed, meaning it cannot feed and will not survive for long.
Due to its skull not forming properly, the calf’s brain was positioned under the skin, according to the vet.
Bicer told local media: “This was a birth anomaly, usually occurring as a result of a genetic disorder. It is a very rare condition.
“The calf’s skull has not formed properly and its brain is under the skin. It also does not have any eyes.
“Its nose and mouth are partially formed, and there is no strong jaw structure.”
Bicer added: “In such cases, the calf has no chance of survival. Because its jaw has not formed, it cannot feed.”
The vet said: “This is the first time I have ever encountered such a situation.”
