The Saildrone Explorer is a new unmanned surface vehicle (USV) that can operate in maritime areas to collect high-quality data from the oceans autonomously that can be further processed and used for a variety of applications.

The USV autonomously navigates through large areas of the oceans through wind and currents. It is constantly monitored by a pilot who can command and control the USV through satellite.

In the footage, the USV can be seen navigating with ease through the waters of the Arabian Gulf as UK and US naval ships follow closely behind during the Phantom Scope exercise.

The one-day exercise, called Phantom Scope, occurred in international waters off the coast of Bahrain with forces from U.S. 5th Fleet and the UK Royal Navy, according to the US Navy’s official website.
