Spanish bullfighters are calling for a massive demonstration to be carried out during the next weeks to protest against the Ministry of Culture and their lack of support during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Reports said that the pro-bullfighting organisation Fundacion Toro de Lidia has asked bullfighters and other working in the business, as well as fans and supporters, to take part in a protest in the coming weeks in Spain.
According to local media, a first protest could be carried out on 24th May in the city of Seville at 12:30 pm in the city centre in Plaza de Espana.
Local media reported that the bullfighting sector is unhappy with the lack of support during the COVID-19 health crisis that has affected this kind of entertainment as public spectacles have been suspended since 14th March when the country went into a lockdown.
The Fundacion Toro de Lidia said on social media: “The bullfighting sector has been working patiently, respectfully and loyally with the Ministry of Culture, obtaining in exchange discrimination and censorship, culminating in a royal decree of aid to the cultural sector in which they do not even mention bullfighting.”
They also added: “We are not going to accept that organised totalitarian groups try to impose on society what counts as culture and what does not, and impose their dogmatic vision of the world.”
