Police Dig Out Dead Monkey Shot With Air Gun By Man And Two Accomplices

The chilling footage captures the moment police dig out the body of a dead monkey after it was shot to death with an air gun by a group of three men.

Smartphone footage depicted police officers uncovering the deceased animal’s body in a pit in the Kanpur Dehat, in India’s state of Uttar Pradesh, on 24th January.

The video further showed them removing the monkey, which appears to be covered in a red blanket, and wrapping it in a white sheet.

The incident came to light after a local identified as Anjani Mishra called law enforcement officers and filed a complaint regarding the monkey’s death earlier that day.

He told them that a man named as Akhand Pratap and his two unidentified accomplices killed the monkey with an air gun on 16th January.

The dead animal reportedly later buried by locals, after they found it tossed on the street.

Discussing the incident, Naubasta’s Assistant Commissioner of Police Ashutosh said. “The complainant, Anjani Mishra, told cops that three people had killed a monkey in his area.

“When he went to enquire about it, he assaulted by the accused.”

Indian media revealed that a follow-up autopsy should determine the monkey’s cause of death.

Meanwhile, Kanpur Nagar Police shared a post. On the social media platform X saying that the suspect arrested on 25th January.

They said in a statement obtained by AsiaWire. “Kanpur Police arrested Akhand Pratap, the criminal who shot and killed an innocent monkey with an air gun.

“The air gun has been seized, other accused who misbehaved with the monkey are also being searched, against whom action will be taken as per law.”

Police added: “Post-mortem of the monkey has been done and all necessary legal action is being taken with intensity.”

The investigation continues.
