Napping Man Left With 20 Percent Burns As Phone Explodes

This man was left covered in bandages with burns to 20 percent of his body after his phone exploded on his chest as he napped.

The incident took place as the man, who has not been named in reports but who was 21 years old, took a nap on his bed with his phone on charge in the state of Sarawak, in Eastern Malaysia.

Local media report he had been using his phone in bed with it on charge when he fell asleep, with the phone left lying on his chest.

The phone allegedly overheated while it was charging

The device is said to have started to overheat before it suddenly exploded, burning the man’s chest and the mattress.

The man’s family reportedly ran into the room and found him with burns to his chest, neck an right hand. He was taken to the emergency department of the Sarawak General Hospital by an ambulance where doctors found he had burns to 20 percent of his body.

The victim was transferred to the burns unit at the hospital and a photo shows him with bandages covering his upper body in the hospital.

Another photo shows how the man’s mattress was burnt in the incident, with an extension cord on the bed.

The exact cause of the explosion of the phone is unclear and the type of phone has not been reported.
