The local fire service were able to bring the fire under control shortly after and no one was injured during the fire.
The car’s owner is not believed to have been in the vehicle when the fire started.
Images taken in the aftermath appear to show parts of the electric car having survived the fire.
BYD, based in the city of Shenzhen in southern Guangdong Province, said their experts were still investigating the fire and the exact cause of the blaze is still unclear.
The carmaker, however, claims the fire was not caused by a battery fault, with pictures showing the batteries at the bottom of the car still intact.
The incident comes just four days after a Tesla Model S burst into flames for as yet unknown reasons inside an underground car park in Shanghai in East China.
An ES8 electric vehicle belonging to Tesla rival NIO caught fire the following day.
Both cases are also still under investigation.
