Loyal Dog Who Refused To Leave Owners Grave For A Decade Is Laid To Rest In Same Cemetery After Hit And Run Killing

This loyal dog which spent 10 years living in a cemetery following its owner’s death has been killed after it was struck by a hit-and-run biker after which it was buried alongside her in an honorary grave.

The loyal pooch nicknamed ‘Bob Coveiro’ (‘Bob the Gravedigger’) died in the city of Taboao da Serra in the Brazilian state of Sao Paulo.

It had lived for close to a decade in the city’s Saudade Cemetery following its owner’s burial there following her death in 2011.

Though the deceased woman’s relatives tried on several occasions to take the pooch home with them, it always refused and ended up returning to the cemetery.

It became such a regular sight at the cemetery, attending all the burials, that a small kennel was built for it there with its name hung above the door.

The NGO Protecao Animal de Taboao e Regiao (Patre) [Taboao and Region Animal Welfare] reported on social media that Bob Coveiro died when it was running after a worker who took care of it and was hit by a motorcyclist, who did not stop to provide help.

Local councillor Anderson Nobrega wrote on Facebook that he is currently working with Patre and local politicians to investigate the case to help to bring the biker to justice.

The deceased dog got a funeral and was laid to rest in the same cemetery where its owner is buried and where it had spent the last decade.

Wreaths of flowers were laid on the grave of the late pooch, which, according to councillor Nobrega, was “loved by the entire population of Taboao”.
