A loyal dog whose owner was recently admitted to hospital has been patiently waiting for him in front of the entrance for five days and even runs back there when relatives take him home.
Cemal Senturk, age not disclosed, who lives in the north-eastern Turkish city of Trabzon, has cared for his dog called Boncuk for nine years, during which time the two have become inseparable best friends.
The cute dog proved his loyalty when Senturk, having experienced heath complications, was taken to the Medical Park Trabzon Karadeniz Hospital on 14th January.
He has remained there for treatment for five days so far, and Boncuk patiently waits for him in front of the hospital entrance without missing a day.
Senturk’s daughter, Aynur Egeli, age not disclosed, said they have taken the dog home multiple times, but it stubbornly returns to the hospital each time.
Egeli told local news agency DHA: “Boncuk never left my father’s side.
“When my father was taken to the hospital, we brought Boncuk to our house here.
“When he learned that my father was in hospital, he refused to stay away. He’s been coming here for five days. Even if we take him home, he runs away and comes here, waiting for my father.”
Senturk sometimes comes down in his wheelchair to greet and comfort his loyal companion while hospital staff feeds and looks after him until he recovers.
Senturk said: “The reason he is so close to me is because I pay so much attention to him.
“When you pay close attention to the animal, it understands, the closer you are, the closer they are to you.
“I never get angry with him. Dogs are animals that love constant attention. If you show interest, you can direct him as you wish.”
Hospital staff said Boncuk’s relationship with his owner caught everyone’s attention, and they quickly grew to love the dog as well.
Boncuk never causes any problems and usually just stays outside the door.
The owner even calls down to the pooch from his hospital window occasionally to keep Boncuk calm and happy.
