Jail Metal Detector Finds Tweezers Left Inside Woman By Surgeons

A horrified woman discovered surgeons had left a pair of tweezers inside her after an operation when she set off a metal detector as she visited her husband in prison.

The patient, not named in local media in Sao Paulo, Brazil, was stopped as she went through security at the Provisional Detention Centre in Sao Jose do Rio Preto, while she was visiting her husband, who is incarcerated for unknown reasons.

And an X-ray revealed a huge medical clamp that had been left behind in her pelvic area by surgeons after an operation in September.

Local media reported that the surgical instrument has since been removed in a second operation.

The Santa Casa de Aracatuba hospital said in a statement: “The hospital has specific protocols so that surgical procedures are carried out safely for patients.

“For this reason, an investigation has already begun to clarify whether the protocol was followed by the team that carried out the procedure.

“At the end of this investigation, the hospital management will take the necessary accountability measures.”
