An Israeli rabbi from one of the country’s ultraorthodox sects claims there is a risk people who take the coronavirus vaccine will become gay.
Jewish religious leader Rabbi Daniel Asor was particularly active on social media claimed that the entire global vaccination drive was part of the work of a “global malicious government” who said were “trying to establish a new world order”.
It follows on from claims a few months previously by another Israeli rabbi, Meir Mazuz, who said homosexuality and gay pride parades were the reason that COVID-19 had spread to Israel in the first place.
He said that the vaccine-like anything else made using “embryonic substrate” can cause people to have tendencies that are opposite to their normal feelings.
He said this was a deliberate warning: “Vaccines are taken from an embryonic substrate, and they did that here, too, so .. It can cause opposite tendencies.”
The Rabbi also said that the World Health Organisation (WHO) and vaccine makers including Pfizer and BioNTech were “criminal organisations” who had tried to persuade ultraorthodox leaders like himself that the vaccine brought benefits in order to get them to support their objectives, which were also to “cull global population”.
His morning, however, is in stark contrast to the senior rabbis of his sect-like Shalom Cohen, Gershon Edelstein and Chaim Kanievsky who have advised followers to be cautious and do everything possible to avoid the virus including taking the vaccine.
In response, a local LGBT+ rights group Havruta has joked about the claims said it was preparing to “welcome our impending new members”.
