A seven-year-old girl got a great birthday gift after discovering a massive 2.95-carat diamond in a national park in the US while celebrating her big day.
Aspen Brown, from Paragould, Arkansas, made the startling discovery at the Crater of Diamonds Park, also in Arkansas.
She was celebrating her birthday in the park when she made the discovery at the site where any diamonds found can be kept by the finder.
Newsflash obtained a statement from the Arkansas State Parks on 6th September saying: “Seven-year-old Aspen Brown, of Paragould, visited Crater of Diamonds State Park in Murfreesboro on Sept. 1 and left with a 2.95-carat golden brown diamond.
“This is the second-largest registered by a park guest this year, topped only by a 3.29-carat brown diamond discovered in March.”
The gem is a shade of brown and is said to be about the size of a green pea, according to local media.
The Crater of Diamonds Park used to be mined for its diamonds before becoming a state park in the early 1970s.
Diamonds have been unearthed in the park since the early 20th century, with the largest ever found in the USA, dubbed the Uncle Sam and coming in at 40 carats, being discovered in the park in 1924.
It is currently unclear how much Aspen’s diamond is worth.
