Fans Fall For Love Bug’s Crochet Cover

A Volkswagen Beetle has become a real-life for a love bug after its owner covered it with a patchwork of crocheted squares.

Ana Lucia Vergetti, known as Lucinha, from Alagoas State, Brazil, said it took her six months to craft the patches and stitch them to her classic VW.

Lucinha bought her beloved motor five years ago and says she was determined to make it stand out from the crowd.

Video footage of her car – nicknamed Fuxico – shows Lucinha driving it up and down to show off the detail of her patchwork cover as it fits the bodywork snugly.

Then as she pulls up close to the cameras she bursts out laughing as the footage ends.

Inside the car, Lucinha’s handmade seat and steering wheel covers are on display.

She said in an interview with Brazilian media: “I’ve been crocheting since I was 10 years old.

“I felt so happy to turn my Beetle into my business card. So I combined the useful with the pleasant, since I love it dearly. I drive it around everywhere.”

“My intention is for people to value manual work and also make clothes. Sales have increased, but I don’t even worry about that.

“I do it for fun, it’s a hobby, I just want to publicise it so that people want to do it too.”

The skilled craftswoman said she was meanwhile approached by several clients who asked her to make crochet covers for their cars, but she turned the down.

She explained: “My Beetle is exclusive!”

Lucinha’s artwork amazed social media users, many of whom praised her for her talent.

Instagram user ‘fuscasporai’ said: “I want to meet. I have a YouTube channel that I want to show off your beautiful Beetle.”

User ‘roserodrigues8217’ commented: “How beautiful, I loved it and congratulations, it really is a work of art!”

And ‘cleide.cm’ added: “Lady, you’re getting in Guinness, where do you live?”
