This Evangelical Christian pastor has been slammed after calling during mass for God to “massacre” Jews “like worms”.
Pastor Tupirani da Hora Lores made the controversial comments during a service at the Jesus Christ Generation Church which he leads in the city of Rio de Janeiro in the southeastern Brazil state of the same name.
The evangelical pastor said during his sermon: “Jews, the nation of Israel, Israelites. I am asking you God, step on them, crush them like worms. […]
“Massacre them, bring your sword down on them God.”
He went on: “They have prostitutes, God. You have to repeat what you did in the Second World War, that is what we ask for in our prayers. Justice! Justice! Justice for these arrogant people who to this day spit in the face of Jesus Christ.”
The Brazilian organisation Singagoues Without Border have filed a complaint against the pastor with the Federal Police, and the organisation’s founder Gilberto Ventura said: “With each report and lawsuit, in each state, our objective is to make the crimes known and for people to see the measures taken against the criminals so people start to the think twice.”
Dr Shimon Samuels, the Director for International Relations at the Wiesenthal Centre, a Jewish global human rights organisation, said: “We call especially on the leaders of the growing Brazilian branch of the worldwide Evangelical movement – as a faithful friend of the Jewish people and the State of Israel – to take necessary action against a rogue member of its Pentecostal branch. Hora Lores’ antisemitic campaign must be nipped in the bud.”
The church which Hora Lores runs hit headlines in Brazil in 2008 when they invaded the Cruz de Oxala Spiritist Centre in Rio de Janeiro and destroyed all the images inside in search of a ‘demon’.
The pastor became the first Brazilian arrested for “religious intolerance” for spreading discriminatory and offensive ideas against Jews on the internet in 2009.
He was later forced to pay damages to a charity and made to undergo community service.
The Federal Police are investigating the case and no arrests have been reported.
