A French fashion designer dubbed the King of Cashmere who insists on having his clothes made in Edinburgh close to the source of material he needs has died after a freak drowning accident on a beach in Brazil.
Lucien Pellat-Finet, 78, who had lived in the country for 30 years, was swept away on the Praia de Itaquera beach in Trancoso on 26th February, reports local media.
Two teenagers who were reportedly surfing on the same beach said they saw him struggling and clearly drowning and tried to paddle to him on their boards but could not fight the current.
His body was recovered on the same day has been held for an autopsy.

Because of his speciality in cashmere, he started with knitted luxurious sweaters, and Intarsia knitters from Edinburgh are used to knit sweaters since the area is known for producing high-end cashmere.
The label has a store in London and in New York.
In March 2019, the Frenchman published a book called “Super F**king Lucky: Lucien Pellat-Finet – King of Cashmere and (Anti) Fashion”, to mark his brand’s 25th anniversary.
The book focuses on Lucien’s life and career, explaining how he came to be known as the King of Cashmere
