Disgusted Indian Diners Find Dead Rat In Curry

A posh restaurant chef and manager in India have been seized by police after disgusted diners apparently found a dead rat in their chicken and mutton curry.

The furious pair went to Mumbai police on 14th August after reportedly fishing out the entire rat – complete with tail – from their dish of bhuna gosht and chicken dhaba on 13th August.

A photo taken at the table shows the rat covered in a red sauce after it had been fished out of the serving and put on a tray.

Police at Bandra Police Station say they arrested two workers at the Papa Pancho the Dhaba, a trendy Punjabi eaterie.

The restaurant is in the city’s exclusive Pali Naka neighbourhood, popular with Bollywood stars.

The police said two suspects were booked under sections 272 (adulteration of food or drink intended for sale), 336 (act endangering the life or personal safety of others), and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code, says local media.

Bandra police senior inspector Sanjay Marathe said: “The food plate in which the rat piece was found has been sent to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for examination, and the manager and cook were arrested.”

The police were called in after the customers – named as banker Anurag Dilip Singh, 40, and Amin Khan, also 40 – said the restaurant manager brushed off their complaint.

But Devraj Gore – a lawyer for the restaurant – told local media the pair were drunk and had almost finished their meal when they pointed to the rat.

He said they had “tried to extort money.”

Gore added: “Later, they approached the police. This has been done to tarnish the restaurant’s reputation which has not faced any complaint in 22 years.”

The investigation is ongoing.
