Day Of The Dragon Marked With Spectacular Solar Halo

Spectacular solar halo that appeared on an auspicious day celebrating the Dragon in China recently.

The footage seen here was shot in the city of Shenzhen which is a special economic zone on the east bank of the Pearl River estuary in the southern Chinese province of Guangdong on 10th April.

The appearance of the solar halo means it’s not only the Year of the Dragon, and the Dragon Moon, but also Dragon Day.

Video footage shows the hangman looking like a garland made of rainbows wrapping around the sun with many people sharing images online.

According to the Shenzhen Meteorological Observatory the solar halo, also called a circular rainbow, is an atmospheric optical phenomenon that is formed when sunlight passes through cirrostratus clouds and is refracted or reflected by ice crystals at an altitude of 5,000 to 6,000 meters (3.2 feet).

As a result, an obvious circle can be seen around the sun.

The greater the content of ice crystals in the clouds, the smaller the “halo” shape will be after the sunlight is refracted.

The colors of the aperture and halo are red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet from the inside to the outside.

It is reported that the solar halo phenomenon generally occurs in spring and summer. Although rare, it is not a strange phenomenon.

As to any superstitious interpretation, the weather bureau said that because it means a lot of was in the atmosphere the corona is a precursor to weather changes, but it does not have any supernatural premonition.

The weather experts also warn that although the solar halo is very beautiful, it is recommended not to watch it with the naked eye for a long time to avoid burning the eyes.

Online commentator ‘Wu Qiong’ said: “It’s true. I went out to pick up my kids from school at noon and took this photo at the gate of the community.”

Another user ‘Fan-WW’ said: “So beautiful.”

While the user ‘Strict’ said: “Lucky halo, the magic of nature, look up and see good luck, a pie in the sky.”
