Shocked witnesses have filmed this video showing a five-year-old boy operating his dad’s excavator for fun on the side of a busy road.
The boy was spotted on the streets of Jinyun County in Lishui City in China’s eastern Zhejiang Province by a woman surnamed Yang, who saw the scenes on her way home from work.
“It was in the morning and there were lots of cars and people on the road,” Yang said.
She added: “I wouldn’t believe my eyes when I noticed the driver of the digger was a little boy. That’s really scary and dangerous!”
CCTV images show the boy’s dad, surnamed Zhu, walking next to the excavator as it makes its way through the street, even crossing a road.
Fortunately, no one was injured during the stunt, which the dad later admitted was “for fun”.
Local authorities arrested Zhu after receiving Yang’s video of the incident.
The father reportedly told the police: “My son likes to have fun. He kept nagging me about driving the excavator, so I agreed but thought I’d stand beside him to make sure nothing went wrong.”
The police have handed Zhu a three-day detention sentence.
