‘Climate Shakira’ Eco Activist Facing Jail Over Glue Demos

An eco-activist dubbed the ‘Climate Shakira’ is facing jail for repeatedly glueing herself to roads during protests.

German psychology student Anja Windl, 26, will stand trial at the Munich District Court on 13th March for coercion over repeated stunts to block traffic by glueing herself to the road.

During one demonstration in Graz, Austria, a surgeon allegedly prevented from getting to hospital to perform an operation.

Windl’s trial dates back to her part in an eco demo in Munich in August last year (2023).

Following the protests, she seized by police and held in preventative detention in Stadelheim prison for two weeks.

She given her nickname over her striking resemblance to the ‘Hips Dont Lie’ Colombian star.

Windl faces a hefty fine, which she says that she cannot pay, which could mean more time behind bars.

She told local media: “To me, our fight against global warming is worth it. I’m on the right side, I’ll keep fighting, we’re all doing far too little to save the climate.”

Windl said she cannot afford a lawyer and said: “I will defend myself alone.”

She added: “If I’m completely honest I’m already worried and afraid.”

Local media reported that on top of criminal charges German national Windl is also set to be banned from entering Austria.

She said: “I find it outrageous that I am denied the right to protest in Austria. I have been living in Austria for years and my life, including my studies, is there.”
