Brits Flock To Spain To Snap Up Second Homes After COVID 19 Travel Woes

A major UK property developer has announced that Brits have been buying up second homes in the south of Spain at a record rate for the last three months in a row.

Taylor Wimpey Spain, part of Taylor Wimpey Plc, said October was the best month since 2015 for property buyers reserving second homes.

The company also said that reservations from Brits increased throughout August, September and October, even outstripping figures from the same period in 2019, before the pandemic led to a considerable drop in travel and sales.

The most popular destination for British property buyers was the Costa del Sol in the southern Spanish region of Andalusia, a firm favourite with UK travellers and second home investors.

Taylor Wimpey Spain marketing director Marc Pritchard said: “The Costa del Sol is a long-term favourite with British families and it’s easy to see why. Beautiful beaches, great food, bustling towns, exceptional golf and other sporting facilities, there’s just everything here.”

Pritchard said “British appetite for Spanish second homes is well and truly alive once more”, adding: “After multiple lockdowns, and now with far greater freedom to work away from the office, we’re seeing families rush to turn their dreams of owning a home in Spain into reality.”

Taylor Wimpey announced that new property ventures are in huge demand with British customers who can work from home while based in southern Spain or are considering retirement.

Properties with terraces are proving very popular, especially if boasting an ocean view or facing a golf course.

In March 2022, the first homes in the Iconic residential complex will be available for clients to move in.

Iconic consists of 170 new apartments in the fast-developing coastal town of Gran Alacant with stunning sea views.
