Amateur Kung-Fu Fighters Battle Video Goes Viral

This Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon-style kung fu video showing two amateur martial artists in an epic battle has gone viral in China with over 16 million views.

The viral battle was features amateur kung fu fighters Wang Qun and Sun Xingang in the city of Chengdu in China’s Sichuan Province and has exploded on social media with 16.6 million views.

Director Sun Jikun said: “My dream is to one day design my own style of action in movies. To make action films as unique as those of Jackie Chan and Jet Li.”

The pair star in the epic battle which was directed by Jikun and features sound effects and scenes straight out of Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon.

In the video, the two amateur kung fu masters can be seen facing off with staffs. One of the fighters performs a slow-motion roundhouse kick and his staff is sent flying towards his opponent.

The other kung fu master then stops the staff with his own and spins it around in the air.

The pair can then be seen in a high-speed staff fight complete with over-the-top sound effects.

They spin, jump and kick their way through the fight until one of their staffs is sent flying.

The fight continues until the final staff is broken and both fighters spin away. The scene was uploaded to a social media account named ‘The Kung Fu Dream of Two Uncles’.

Xingang told reporters: “We repeat every action to make sure we do the best. Sometimes we repeat 40 times and get hurt. Everything including the shooting and producing are all done by ourselves.”

The clip reportedly took one week to record and Wang Qun said :”My dream is to promote the Chinese kung fu via social media.”

The pair of amateur kung fu enthusiasts both graduated from Chengdu Sport University, according to reports.

Chengdu Sports University, which is also the alma mater of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon stunt double Zhang Jin.

Zhang began his career as a stand-in for the movie’s supporting actress Zhang Ziyi, who nominated for a BAFTA, and who has since become one of China’s most beloved actors.

Weibo user ‘Jie Ke’ commented :”That’s fantastic! They fight at such a high speed and not relying on fast forwarding.” 

And ‘Wu Suoqiu’ added :”This kind of kung fu action no long exists in movies now!”

While ‘Qi Cun’ wrote :”This puts current action movies to shame!”

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon is a 2000 film directed by Ang Lee that received the Oscar for best international feature film.
