These shocking images show a helpless seagull which has been glued to the pavement in a sick prank.
The image was snapped by passersby on the island of Langoya in the Norwegian municipality of Sortland.
Passersby were walking in the area when they spotted the helpless bird with its wings glued to the pavement.
According to local media, the bird had been stuck in the spot overnight and its entire plumage was glued.
The walkers were unable to free the bird, and so called the cops, who in turn asked a vet to attend the scene in a bid to free the bird.
Sadly, the veterinarian was unable to free the poor creature and it had to be put to sleep in the end.
“There was no chance of saving the animal. I could not tear it loose. Every measure was doomed to failure,” the unnamed veterinarian told the Norwegian newspaper NRK.
He added that he had never seen anything like it in two decades in his profession.
The vet and cops agreed that the bird had been deliberately trapped after being lured to the spot – where glue had been spread on the ground – using breadcrumbs as bait.
The photo was shared online by local media and animal rights groups.
Commenting on the cruel snap, animal rights group “Norway for the Lofoten and Vesterålen” said: “We don’t want to imagine how much the bird had to suffer all night before anyone came.”
The group has since filed a criminal case with the police in a bid to find out who set the trap for the bird, however, the perpetrator or perpetrators are still at large.
The organisation has criticised police for not doing more to find those behind the attack.
One unnamed worker told local media: “We fully understand that the police have more important things to do. But it does not take a whole police patrol to look after the seagull case.”
