This is the moment a dilapidated building on a busy road suddenly collapses onto a live electricity wire sending sparks flying at passersby.

The incident took place in the city of Haridwar in the northern Indian state of Uttarkhand and was filmed by a CCTV camera across the street.

In the video footage, pedestrians and vehicles are seen bustling along a busy road at night.

All of a sudden, the building in the background begins to collapse and huge chunks of concrete crumble away from the supporting walls.

Several people, motorcycles and cars were circulating on the road adjacent to the building before the collapse

An electrical explosion then fills the screen and sparks rain down close to where locals are passing.

Then everything goes eerily still as people stop in their tracks.

According to local media, the derelict building was empty when it collapsed.

The falling rubble then fell on live electrical wires which snapped and caused a large explosion.

Traffic police arrived on the scene and quickly cordoned off the area while the electricity department shut down the power to prevent any further mishap.

According to reports, local residents have been complaining about the derelict building’s condition for a long time and accused the local authorities of neglecting to demolish it.

The police have yet to confirm whether they are investigating the incident.
