Sick Fans Monkey Imitation At Rivals In Stands

This is the sickening moment a fan appears to imitate a monkey in racist gestures as he goads fans of a rival team at a Copa Libertadores match.

The incident took place during Brazilian side Santos’ 2-1 away victory over Argentine side Defensa y Justicia in their first group stage match in the Copa Libertadores on Tuesday 3rd March held at the Estadio Norberto “Tito” Tomaghello stadium in the Argentine city of Florencio Varela.

The video shows the moment a shirtless Defensa supporter looks in the direction of the person filming him and seemingly laughs and points at him mockingly before he starts to imitate a monkey.

A Brazilian fan can be heard yelling “what is that?”, angered by the fan’s racist gesture as the Defensa supporter does his monkey imitation again, seemingly unperturbed by being filmed.

A fan sitting next to the shirtless man can be seen laughing at the incident as police officers standing in the direct vicinity do nothing to try and stop the incident from occurring.

Once finished with his racist insult, the shirtless man looks in the direction of the rival supporters as the video comes to an end.

The incident led Defensa to release a statement shortly after the match saying they “condemn the racist attitude carried out by an unadapted” fan going on to say “we ask for apologies” to the “@SantosFC side.”

The club issued a second statement yesterday (Wednesday) saying: “In relation to the person that yesterday performed racist gestures, we will try to identify him and apply the corresponding sanctions.

“Just as there are bad examples, there are also good examples and these are worth mentioning. The Copa Libertadores is more than football.”

There have been no reports on the man’s identity or what the sanctions would be.

Santos’ win placed top of Group G in the Copa Libertadores.
