A Russian statesman has set tongues wagging after confusing a top US porn star with a hard-working student in a botched social media thank you note.
The former Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council of Russia, Alexander Torshin, made the blunder when he retweeted a post honouring a generous student.
The post included a photo of a pretty young woman and said: “This student from Kuban, alone planted 350 apple trees. Let’s say thanks to her.”
Torshin, who has also been the Deputy Governor of Russia’s Central Bank, commented: “Thank you, beautiful! I bow down to you!”
However, eagle-eyed netizens realised that the photo was in fact American transgender porn actress Bailey Jay.
In 2011 and 2012, Jay won the AVN Award for transgender performer of the year. She also co-hosts the podcast ‘The Bailey Jay Show’ with her husband, photographer Matthew Terhune.
The American porn star also hosts the podcast ‘The Trans Witching Hour with Bailey Jay’ that deals with spirituality, the horror-themed podcast ‘Blood Lust with Bailey Jay’ and she co-hosts the transgender advice podcast ‘Sugar and Spice’ with Jen Richards.
Meanwhile, Torshin remained unfazed about the mishap and told local media: “So what? I am relaxed about this, I am not familiar with porn actresses, I really don’t know this industry.
“I wanted to thank someone for the 350 apple trees. And the fact that porn stars are not familiar to a man of retirement age is natural, in my opinion.”
