Sleepy panda dozing off in the grass seemingly not minding the falling snow that it nearly got buried under.
Phone footage filmed by zoo keepers at the Xi’an Qinling Wildlife Park in the city of Xi’an. In China’s north-western Shaanxi Province, showed the brown panda, named Qizai, sleeping soundly in its outdoor enclosure.
An apparent fan of winter, Qizai remained outside in the snowfall rather than seeking shelter and even curled up on the ground for a peaceful slumber.
Its keepers shared the images on Douyin, China’s version of TikTok. Jokingly clarifying it was not a sack despite how it looked.
One user titled ‘I am Xiaoyue, not Xiaoyue’ commented: “Oh my God, Qizai is sleeping alone in the snow. I really want to give it a hug.”
User ‘Doudou~~’ wrote: “Qizai likes snow very much, huh?”
And ‘Powerful cat’ said: “Can’t tell where the head is.”
The brown panda, better known as the Qinling panda (Ailuropoda melanoleuca qinlingensis). Is a subspecies of the giant panda that is found. In the Qinling Mountains of Shaanxi Province.
Excited Panda Rolls Around In Fresh Snow
The Qinling panda is characterized by its smaller size and a different colour pattern compared to the more common black and white giant pandas.
It often has a lighter colouration, with brown or light tan patches in its fur in addition to the usual black and white markings.
The Qinling panda’s distinct features and genetic differences make it an interesting and unique subset of the giant panda population.
There are estimated to be only between 200 and 300 Qinling pandas living in the wild.
