Cruz accompanied the snap with the message: “At the Venice Film Festival with this goddess!”

In the picture, Cruz is seen beaming alongside the 70-year-old Hollywood legend as she cuddles up and rests a hand on her shoulder.

The photo has been ‘liked’ over 320,000 times in less than a day.

The Hollywood stars were visiting the northern Italian city of Venice for the annual film festival where Cruz was promoting ‘Wasp Network’, a film about five Cuban political prisoners who had been imprisoned by the US on charges of espionage and murder.

The upcoming drama, directed by Olivier Assayas and co-starring Edgar Ramirez and Ana de Armas, had its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival.

Meanwhile, Streep was reportedly attending the event with the cast of ‘The Laundromat’, a biographical comedy-drama directed by Steven Soderbergh and co-starring Gary Oldman, Antonio Banderas and Sharon Stone.

The Netflix-distributed film also had its world premiere at the film festival and is scheduled to be theatrically released on 27th September.

In a 2012 interview, Cruz said of Streep: “When I first started watching movies and I saw Meryl’s work, I became obsessed with acting. Now I kiss her whenever I see her! She must think I’m crazy.”

Commenting on Cruz’s Instagram post, netizen ‘Rodgonzalezl’ said: “My favourite actresses in one photo!”

‘Itziarcastro’ remarked: “You are both goddesses!”
