Opera singer Andrea Bocelli and his family have given up the search for their lost dog Pallina.
The dog described as a puppy although its age is unknown vanished while the family were on holiday in Sardinia with their pet.
The opera singer was joined by many others after he sent out a plea on Instagram to ask fans for help after losing their beloved Italian greyhound.
His family, including wife Veronica Berti, were seen using jet skis and boats to search for the pup.
But now they appear to have given up after he posted a message on Facebook, saying: “Dear friends, following the latest reports of sightings in the sea, it is time to accept, it is time to make room in the heart for our little dog, so that from now on, he continues to live and play. Above all, it is a time to thank, for the affection and support you have given us.”
The celebrity and his family were joined by supporters after the 61-year-old posted a snap of himself with the dog asking for help to find the dog.
He wrote: “Dear friends, this time I am writing to ask you for a little but great help for us. Pallina, our little Italian greyhound, is lost somewhere in #Sardinia in the stretch of sea that goes from Liscia Ruja in the municipality of Arzachena to Baia Caddinas in the municipality of Golfo Aranci.
“She has a microchip and is very affectionate . . . She will certainly be alone, very scared. We are saddened and worried about this helpless little creature and its fate. We hope to receive positive news from you that would open our hearts. We would be grateful to you.”
The message was repeated in a similar form by his wife and his son, Matteo Bocelli.
