Moment Cop Gives Lockdown Granny Cake On Her 90th Bday

This is the heartwarming moment Spanish Civil Guard officers present an OAP living alone during the COVID-19 lockdown with a cake on her 90th birthday.

The kindhearted gesture was filmed in the town of Aspe in the province of Alicante located in the eastern Spanish region of Valencia, and the Civil Guard later posted the video on Twitter where it has been viewed nearly 150,000 times.

According to local media, Spanish resident Nieves turned 90 and her family informed the police about the occasion because the OAP lives alone and cannot receive visitors during the COVID-19 lockdown.

The video shows the moment Nieves holds up the cake to cheering neighbours as a Civil Guard officer in a face mask also applauds the overjoyed OAP.

Nieves mentions that several grandchildren could not visit her on her special day and another man is heard saying that they will be there “for your 91st”.

The Civil Guard accompanied the video with the message: “Nieves lives alone and is dealing with this #YoMeQuedoEnCasa (I Am Staying At Home) like a champion.

“Even today she is spending her 90th birthday without the company of her loved ones. That is why the Civil Guard of Aspe Alicante have taken the opportunity to congratulate her and remind everyone that #EsteVirusLoParamosJuntos (We Will Stop This Virus Together).”

Several netizens took to social media to praise the kind gesture with ‘Leonaviva’ saying: “You are great! Thank you. Long live the Civil Guard!”

‘PilucaGlezSev’ wrote: “She looks wonderful at 90. Thank you for taking care of us. Congratulations Nieves.”

‘Josefabarcelofe’ commented: “Long live the Civil Guard and long live Spain.”

Local media said that the Civil Guard found out about Nieves’ birthday after her family called to inform them.

Spain will remain in lockdown until at least mid-April, however local media said that it is expected to be extended beyond then.

According to the latest figures by Johns Hopkins University, Spain has reported 104,118 cases of COVID-19 leading to 9,387 deaths – the third most cases in the world.
