Its A Fair Cop: Cute Dog Surrenders With Paws Up As Armed Bikers Pulled Over And Arrested

This is the moment a dog seemingly with a guilty conscience lies down and surrenders alongside two handcuffed bikers arrested after a police chase.

The cute dog, which looks like it also had something to hide, was snapped by police officers in the municipality of Itaperucu, which is located in the southern Brazilian state of Parana, on Sunday, 6th March.

Police officer Tiago Wendrechoviski said that they had nabbed the biker duo and were in the process of arresting them when the dog came over and turned itself in as well after it saw the two suspects being searched and lying on the ground with their hands cuffed behind their backs.

The dog then also lay down on the ground and appeared to put its paws up, as if to indicate that it was surrendering as well.

But it turned out that the animal did not know them, with the police speculating that rather than having a guilty conscience, it might have felt empathy for the two handcuffed suspects.

The two suspects, who have not been named, had reportedly tried to flee from the police, prompting officers to chase them down and arrest them.

The passenger was reportedly arrested for the illegal possession of a firearm, while the motorbike driver was arrested for riding a “tampered” vehicle. They were taken to a police station in Rio Branco do Sul. It is unclear at the time of writing if they had been formally charged.

Officer Wendrechoviski said: “I thought the dog was the guys’ accomplice. It was strange because it didn’t know them, but it felt sorry for them and lay down next to the guys.”

The bemused police officer and his colleagues decided to photograph the incident and shared it online, where it quickly made the rounds on social media before appearing in local news outlets.

Officer Wendrechoviski added: “It was very unusual for something rare like this to happen. That’s why I took the photo, which later leaked from a closed group [on social media] and went viral.”

The police said that there is no kennel service or animal shelter in Itaperucu, and so they left the cute dog off the hook after arresting the two human suspects.
