He is a social media personality with over 185,000 Instagram followers. He said that he was a huge fan of the Joker character, and wanted to take some pictures in the costume to share with his online community. He also has a YouTube channel with 36,000 subscribers.
Some of the images prior to his arrest have already been shared with his followers and there were also two videos posted in which he is seen laughing while wearing the Joker costume, with the footage seen thousands of times and attracting hundreds of comments.
The Interior Ministry was made aware of the arrest and told media that wearing a mask in public was illegal because criminals might take advantage of the opportunity to hide their faces prior to committing a crime. They warned “citizens and residents against committing any acts that would destabilise security and spread fear”.
It is unclear if he will face charges over the stunt. The Joker character that he was copying has received renewed prominence following the recent release of the movie which follows the fall into madness of failed comedian Arthur Fleck who later became the Joker.
There had been not mention of Ebraheem al-Hababi’s release at the time of writing.
