European health professionals and workers who have fought the COVID-19 pandemic in the last months will be offered a week of free accommodation in holidaymaker hotspot Ibiza in 2021.
The regional government of the Balearic island of Ibiza in eastern Spain have announced in a press statement that they are joining ‘Together for Healthcare Heroes’, an organisation seeking to show gratitude to health workers for their “professionalism and strength”.
According to the ‘Together for Healthcare Heroes’ website, their mission is “to find at least 1,000 best in class accommodation providers in Europe” to give healthcare heroes a free accommodation holiday experience in summer 2021.
Hotel chains Atzaro, OD Hoteles, Concept Hotel Group, Aguas de Ibiza and more than 60 private properties in Ibiza have already joined the organisation, according to local newspaper Diario de Ibiza.
The Tourism Councillor of Ibiza, Juan Miguel Costa, told local media that the project seeks to “compensate those who have looked after us, risking their lives in many cases, and who deserve that we all do our share to make sure they have holidays that meet high expectations”.
Other supporters of the organisation are estate agencies such as Prime Villas Ibiza, Domus Nova Ibiza, which offers properties in Ibiza and West London, fashion brand Illicia Made in Italy, or British and Danish design and photography consultancy agency Blue Eskimo.
It is still unclear how health workers can take advantage of this initiative or if British health professionals are also eligible as the project is in its initial stages, and they still looking for participating accommodation, according to ‘Together for Healthcare Heroes’.
