Horrified Hiker Watched Fiance Plunge Down Mountain Ravine

A horrified hiker watched her fiance plunge 300 feet to his death down a mountain ravine after they took a wrong turn on a walking trip.

Doctor Emilio Gentile, 26, died instantly in the fall down a chasm in the Bergamo Alps in northern Italy on 14th August.

The couple were supposed to be on a gentle walk along an easy path for an afternoon stroll.

But they took a wrong turn and ended up on a terrifying 6,000-foot-high mountain pass in Val Brembana.

Gentile’s fiancee – who has not been named by police – called the emergency services but he was already dead by the time a mountain rescue team found him.

Josehf Facchini – mayor of Lumezzane where the couple lived – said in a statement: “For our Lumezzane it is a really sad mid-August… when similar tragedies happen there are no words, just a lot of suffering.”

He added: “The death of a person originally from our community is always sad, even more so when a boy so young and with so much life ahead of us leaves us.

“I am even more sorry to have learned from people close to him that Emilio was not only a doctor but also a volunteer, therefore he dedicated not only his work but also it’s time to help others just like a good Lumezzanese would.

“On behalf of our community, I offer my deepest condolences to his family and we embrace his loved ones.”

Gentile’s funeral will be held in his hometown on 17th August.
