Frozen Turtles Thaw And Come Back To Life After Woman Leaves Them Outside In Icy Temps

This is the moment a Chinese woman films her pet turtles apparently coming back to life after they froze in blocks of ice when she left them outside in bitter temperatures.

The incident took place in the city of Zhengzhou in the Chinese province of Henan last week, and the footage has been widely circulated on the social network Douyin, which is what TikTok is known as in China.

The turtles’ owner, whose surname was given as Rui, said she found her pets frozen in blocks of ice and brought them back to life after thawing them indoors at room temperature.

She explained that the province has seen a sharp drop in temperatures in recent days and that she forgot to move the turtles’ tank into a warm room.

Ms Rui added: “On Monday, I found that my turtles were frozen in blocks of ice. I was so afraid that my turtles had died. Fortunately, after thawing, the turtles came back to life.”

She explained that she received lots of suggestions from netizens after sharing the video online and learned that thawing at room temperature apparently works best.

In the footage, the turtles are seen frozen in blocks of ice in their outside tank. In the next clip, they are seen defrosted in the water in an inside room as at least one turtle moves around after apparently being revived.

According to reports, turtles cannot stay alive if frozen for long periods of time, as ice crystals will form in their organs and damage them.

If turtles are in shallow water and ice forms on the surface and around their shells for short periods of time, they can remain alive.
