A four-year-old girl has died after falling into an open cesspit full of human waste while playing with her friends.
Little Naz Gul Akduman from the city of Adana, in southern Turkey, was found dead at the bottom of the septic tank on Tuesday, 18th October.
The youngster has been playing in the back garden of her grandfather’s home, reported local media, when her friends noticed she was missing.
Naz’s parents – father Mehmet Akduman, 27, and mother Sevgi, 27 – and neighbours organised a search to find her.
To their horror, their daughter’s friends pointed towards the open cesspit and the family called police.
A sewage truck with a vacuum pump emptied the tank and, reported local media, Naz’s body was found at the bottom.
Officials say she was taken to the Adana Forensic Medicine Institute for an autopsy.
Following the forensic examinations, Naz’s remains were handed over to her family.
She was buried at the Guneri Mahallesi Cemetery in the district of Mezarlik.
Ironically, Naz, her parents and her two-year-old brother Oguz Akduman had moved only a week before the tragedy.
They reportedly left their previous home to be closer to their relatives.
Naz’s cause of death has not been released by officials.
The investigation continues.
