The Madison County Sheriff’s Office and the Warren County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the recent sightings near the towns of New Virginia, St. Charles and St. Marys, in Iowa, in the USA.

In this footage obtained by Newsflash, a mountain lion can be seen making its way through a forested area near New Virginia.

The two Sheriff’s Offices said that it is not certain whether the multiple sightings are from the same animal or not.

They clarified that a mountain lion has only been spotted in uninhabited areas, and stated that they do not believe there is any danger to the public.

The mountain lion is the largest of the three wildcats historically documented in Iowa, according to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR).

The lynx and the bobcat are the other two.

This is the first confirmed case of a mountain lion being spotted in Iowa since 2019, although there have been over 2,000 unconfirmed reports since 2010, according to the DNR’s official website.

It is possible that they are occasionally wandering certain state regions, however, there isn’t a documented self-sustaining breeding population of mountain lions in Iowa, the DNR says.
